Update 11/20/2024: I have left Medium because their new royalty model made the membership fee no longer worth it. I have moved to Substack. You can find me in the following places:

1. And Then After — Rudy Francisco

My favorite poem by Rudy, whom I had the pleasure of meeting last year at his performance in Richmond, VA. This poem appears in his full-length collection, Helium.

Rudy Francisco is a dark-skinned Black man with trim hair and goatee. He is wearing a velvet blazer and bow tie. He stands in front of a microphone with a jubilant expression.

2. The Everlasting Self — Tracy K. Smith

From the former U.S. poet laureate’s collection Wade in the Water. My very first poetry workshop was with Tracy K. Smith (an honor!) when she visited Teton County Library in 2018.
