A white background with blue clouds in the bottom left and upper right corners. Cursive writing says 31 poems by 31 women, underneath in print it says for Women's History Month 2023

1. A Woman — Brenda Vaca

This poem “A Woman” is from the very talented, Brenda Vaca‘s collection Riot of Roses. (She also launched her own publishing company by the same name!)

She and I met in the Community Literature Initiative Season 8 cohort.

2. G.S.M.O — Alex Petunia

A poem from Alex Petunia‘s full-length collection through World Stage Press, Tending My Wild.

Alex was my TA in the Community Literature Initiative my first semester! So appreciate her poetry mentorship!

3. Praise Song for the Stiletto — Danielle Mitchell

I absolutely loved this poem by Danielle Mitchell, founder and director of The Poetry Lab. It was first published on Drunk Monkeys last year.

4. Perhaps Unlike Us — Connie Wieneke

A poem by Connie Wieneke who leads the Jackson Hole Writers poetry group which helped me workshop many of my poems. I admire her connection to nature and her ability to describe it so uniquely.

Also really appreciate the use of “isthmus” in this poem. I, too, have a poem that uses “isthmus.” Good word :-)

5. Bless This School for Girls — Warsan Shire
